A lot of people seem confused about this point, so I’ll explain.

Basically, energy drinks are bad for you. They are sugar/caffeine filled beverages in a world where you don’t really need to drink anything other than water.

That being said, they are no worse for you than risks that we commonly accept in our day-to-day lives, like a bottle of lemonade or an espresso. There is an issue for small children — they can get caffeine poisoning quite easily from either strong coffee or energy drinks — but for your average adult, it’s not a huge concern.

I’m not arguing that people should drink energy drinks, rather that the fearful hype that has swept across the world recently is based on poor evidence and really they’re just another kind of bad dietary option like chocolate or ice cream. In moderation, you should be fine.
